               Grief

When will I wake, and not think,
” It has been a month…six weeks… half a year since I lost you?”
To open my eyes and see the day for what it is,
not just as another march of time to measure
through eyes that are sightless without you.
When will tears not seem like my closest companion,
and laughter not seem such a stranger?
Will I ever find myself at the end of a day
without thinking of you a thousand times?
I went through a door that goes only one-way,
and I can’t get back to that life… life that I measure by the last breath,
slowly sighed between your lips.

It's been a rough day, and I am facing my first birthday without my mom. Nuff said.

Oh dear, I've been there. Lovely poem.
